The Monodraught hybrid ventilation solution has evolved to support Priority Schools Building Programme 2 (PSBP2) requirements. Monodraught has been at the forefront of designing and manufacturing low energy, low carbon and sustainable solutions for over 40 years. Our company is focused around three product sets in which we are recognised as market leaders; natural and hybrid lighting, natural cooling and natural and hybrid ventilation.
One customer segment in which Monodraught have continued to see success is education. For natural ventilation this is particularly relevant to the Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP). The first tranche of this programme addressed the needs of the schools most in need of urgent repair. In 2014 the programme evolved to PSBP2. This is a capital funded project, which will undertake rebuilding and refurbishment projects across 277 schools from 2015 to 2021.
What is a Hybrid Thermal Mixing System (HTM)?
The Hybrid Thermal Mixing (HTM) system from Monodraught is designed to provide hybrid ventilation incorporating mixed tempered air for winter periods with the ability to provide secure night time cooling and boosted levels of ventilation during summer. The system is designed to work in conjunction with natural ventilation provided by manual or automatic windows and can be used in single sided or cross flow ventilation strategies.
Evolved to meet PSBP2 requirements, the Monodraught HTM FS uses exceptionally low specific fan powers and features an intelligent control system which is supplied as standard with full data logging facility, temperature and CO2 control. With the optional BACnet module, each unit has the ability to output key performance data to a central BMS to show compliance within PSBP & BB93 specification requirements.
How has our system evolved for PSBP2?
The new HTM FS is a slimline version of our original HTM product and requires a ceiling void of 350mm. This will support a more modular approach to school building. Monodraught recommend that two units be fitted per classroom, this will allow more natural air to circulate in the classroom. Monodraught continue to offer superior acoustics with a maximum sound pressure level of 31.9dBA. As per the 2016 regulations the system power consumption is extremely low and supports schools efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

The ability of the HTM solution to report back to the BMS system allows schools and facility managers to track performance. Each wall controller also has the ability to perform a self-test operation. The wall controller is able to run a diagnostics to search for any faults with the system. If any faults are found, they will be indicated to the user. This test can be initiated by either a Monodraught engineer or a facility manager.
The HTM system ensures classrooms are maintaining CO2 and temperature levels within the recommended levels throughout the school day. The control panel enables teachers and students in classrooms to manage ventilation rates by providing visual stimulus on CO2 levels and whether additional manual ventilation is needed.
